Ethiopia is a landlocked country in Africa. With 100 million people, it is Africa's second most populous country and the 10th largest in Africa. Its capital is Addis Ababa.
Ethiopia is one of the oldest independent countries in Africa and one of the oldest in the world. It was the second country after Armenia to declare Christianity its official religion.
Ethiopia's population is very diverse. Most people's language is Sami or Gashi. The Ethiopian, Amhara and Tigrai form more than three-quarters of the population, but live in more than 80 different ethnic groups in Ethiopia. The population of some of these groups does not exceed 10000 people.
Ethiopians who speak Semitic on the one hand and Eritrean people on the other hand commonly refer to themselves as "Abyssinia" or "Abhishah," Many educated people in this country speak English.
